The newly elected members of BANA, Baltimore Association of Nepalese in America headed by President Rubina Thapa organized an event and invited Minister for Forest and Soil conservation Mr. Kiran Gurung as the chief guest only to insult him, says eye witness. As per the information provided by eyewitnesses, Mr. Gurung was called upon to address the on going issues of government in various fields and during his address he was interrupted by sending notes by the general secretary of BANA Mr. Gautam Dahal asking the Minister to conclude his speech, trying to cut him short. After couple of attempts to cut the Minister’s speech by sending notes, the sound system the Minister was speaking on was cut off and again put back on and finally the agitated Gautam Dahal stepped on stage and grabbed the Microphone from the Minister, despite the fact the Minister requested to finish what he had started. Such an act from the office bearers of BANA was an insult to Minister Gurung. Regardless of the differences in political views and beliefs the chief guest should have been allowed the time to make his point and not bluntly cut off the way he was. After all he was a Minister representing the current government of Nepal. It is understood that the members of BANA mostly comprise of people with a political incline towards the Congress but if you invite someone as a guest you should have the capacity to treat one as a guest. The other question here is did Gautam Dahal behave in such a manner due to the political differences he believed in or was he motivated by a third force, it’s worth knowing. Dahal is capable of doing what he did but could also have fallen a victim to someone’s plan cause at the end of the day Gautam Dahal expressed his feelings by saying sorry for what he did and also publicly admitted that he was wrong by doing what he did. The other question is will BANA take some kind of action against the General Secretary who was so irresponsible, who went to the extend of insulting a visiting Minister from Nepal or will they let it go as it has been in the past without acknowledgement of any kind whatsoever.
