katawal-good-2Mr. Rukmangad Katawal, the Chief of the Nepal Army who was sacked by the Maoists’ led government in a unilateral decision has been reinstated to continue as the NA Chief by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav who is the supreme commander of the Nepal Army. Katawal was sacked by the Maoists party leading the government in a unilateral basis yesterday May 3, 2009. Dr. Yadav had sent a letter at around 10:30 PM May 3, 2009, wherein he asked Katawal to continue his office with the same capacity. Dr Yadav has nullified the cabinet decision, say experts. The letter sent to Katawal, Prime Minster’s secretariat and the defense ministry, claims that the government’s act to sack Katawal and the new appointment did not meet the constitutional provision. Instead of handing the letter of termination of service to the Army Chief, it should have been sent to the President first for his approval and similarly the letter of appointment handed to Khadka should go through the same process. A very sensitive issue of the nation was taken lightly and for granted by the Maoists, thinking that they were above the law and that they were the ultimate rulers, which has cost them the support to remain in the Government. The Government they were leading has lost it’s support from it’s coalition partners and all the political parties are now against the Maoists cause ultimately and though late they are now all aware of the Maoist intention to capture the Nepal Army and bring it under their control. Katawal was the biggest hurdle in terms of agreeing with the Maoist ideology and also stood in way for them to bring their desired person as the Chief cause Khadka would retire before Katawal. To bring in Khadka as the Chief of Nepal Army the desperate move the rebellion Maoists made was sack Katawal which backfired cause the President took a strong stance to protect and save the constitution which has been welcomed by all the political parties and leaders of Nepal, except for the Maoists still listed as terrorists, whose destructive mission remained unaccomplished. As of now, by the direct order of the President Mr. Rukmangad Katawal still remains as the Chief of Staff of the Nepal Army.
